Yum.

Monday 11.15.10

Okay, so I spent half the morning (well, actually, most of the morning) absorbed in this wacky blog called Feasting Never Stops. It’s the apotheosis of food meets design. These pictures are from the Smithsonian Institution collection, and all of the images are of the vittles sent along on the original Apollo Space Mission, or subsequent outer-galactic adventures. Tasty.

WYSIWYG

Tuesday 08.24.10

In a time when everyone is trying to sell you on something (and not always telling the whole truth) the packaging on these goods struck me as refreshing and striking in their default to simplicity. The Emergency Drinking Water is from WWII, I believe, so not exactly available.

Glass Sausages

Sometime in the spring Sam Baron installed his captivating glass sausages in the window of Japan Premium Beef on Great Jones St. in NYC. I would like to see more foodstuffs rendered in silica.

Hej Hej Sweden!

Wednesday 07.28.10

I love Swedish Fish (pastellfiskar), but am moderate in my intake. However, not so with this Swedish Lip Balm. I’m told that “hudsalva forsvarets” literally means military skin cream. The packaging is austere and promises nothing other than what it is. One can purchase it online from http://www.apoteket.se. Follow these directions for ordering, unless you’re lucky enough to be able to read Swedish.
