Play With Your Food

Tuesday 07.05.11

Full disclosure: when I was in college and working late at night, my default meal was either a tin of sardines, triscuits and cheese, or a bag of oreos and a can of coke. Yum. And it was more likely the latter. I only wish that I had thought to occupy myself with making cameo portraits out of the creme filling. Thankfully, Judith G. Klausner has! The whole notion of a portrait sculpted out of something as ephemeral as a cookie, is deeply satisfying, and just very very funny. Thank you Erica for sending this my way. Photos by Steve Pomeroy.

Be Warned

Tuesday 06.28.11

Lately, in a fledgling effort to lighten the burden of owning things I don’t actually use, I have been unpacking boxes of vintage ephemera. Metalite Teeth…case in point. I have managed to collect an embarrassing array of useless, but absolutely wonderful (to me, anyway), medical tools, drawing supplies and other strange and fascinating objects. Stay tuned. I will then be giving them away.

Watch Your Neck

Monday 06.27.11

The top two images are of French mouse traps. The second one is from the US. And the last ones are Swedish. Wondering how each of these reflects their respective national character. I love the French, but honestly, I’m a little scared of that double guillotine model. Let them eat cake!

Fathers Day Gift?

Wednesday 06.15.11

I received a similar pair of these as a gift a couple of years ago. I laughed so hard when I opened the box. It was the last thing I expected to be inside. Looking for something special for dad? Well, your search may be over. These bread slippers are being shipped from Lithuania, courtesy of Mother Eleganza, so they might not make it here on time, in which case a voucher will have to do. The small ones are obviously for junior.

Specialized Tool

Friday 06.10.11

About the size of a small loaf of bread, and surprisingly heavy, this little beauty sits on the windowsill in Pamela Mayer’s shop. It wouldn’t mean much to someone who doesn’t sew, but to Pam, an amazingly gifted clothing designer, this pin cushion is something to be treasured (maybe even guarded) and used. Every day.
